I hadn't heard of "Caribbean French" cuisine and was definitely interested in it. Kaz An Nou is located on the Prospect Heights side of Atlantic Avenue near Bergen Street. There are not so many restaurant on this side. I went there with a friend visiting from Japan and we had a great time.
The inside was not very big and there was a wait for a table. All the tables were taken even though the restaurant was BYOB and Cash Only. I didn't know that, so we couldn't have any drinks with our meal.
The menu fascinated us. It's not typical French but also not typical Carribean. We ordered the carribean style escargots with watermelon gazpacho. The escargots were marinated with spicy curry. Although I had never tried escargots and wasn't quite sure about them, they were very tasty. The mint in the watermelon gazpacho made it even more fresh.
We ordered a duck leg and tilapia to share. The duck leg had an overpowering ingredient and I didn't love it. However, the tilapia was delicious.
The menu said they had dessert but didn't list the choices, so I asked the waiter what they had. We ordered several-sorry, I can't remember what they were, but believe me when I tell you they were delicious.
I'm sure I will go to this restaurant again with wine!
