Taïm is a nice shop among many eateries in Nolita that in particular offer something that the others don't- a speciality in falafel based sandwiches and they do it consistently well under Chef Einat's direction. Service is tops and replete with courtesy. The taste of every sandwich I've had have been nothing but exceptional, which makes it an easy decision to return time and time again

the falafel is probably the best tasting one i've tried besides being in europe. in nyc- a clean, simple and chill soho vibe, i favor Taim a lot. the service is always friendly and you'll always be satisfied from their offerings. i have eaten from their truck and the quality is much higher at the store front. the falafel salad is huge- the ginger lemonade is also a big hit for me.

Taïm

I discovered Taïm more than 2 years ago, as I was searching for the best falafel in the city. And it truly was for me the best one. Then, they opened an outpost in Soho that I did not get a chance to try until recently. Taïm (pronounce Ta-eem, that means in Hebrew tasty, delicious) is an all vegetarian small joint that will flabbergast you. Well, you know, I love my burger, steak or chicken, but I never refuse an invite to go there.
Taïm

It is a small place, so do not go with a large group unless you want to eat your meal somewhere else.
Taïm

Falafel is their specialty and they serve them in three different flavors, as you can see on the photo above. So, we decided to go with a falafel sandwich, made with hummus, israeli salad, pickled cabbage and tahini sauce. Our choice of falafel was the traditional one, made with parsley, cilantro and mint.
Taïm

As you can see, they are generous with the tahini sauce! And these falafel, they were so good: not greasy, a bit crunchy and tasty. But, the highlight of the meal was the sabich, a delicious sandwich composed of sliced eggplant, fried to order, with an organic egg, parsley, hummus, israeli salad, pickled cabbage, tahini sauce and amba, a tangy mango pickle condiment popular in Middle-Eastern cuisine, that was literally dripping.
Taïm

We definitely inhaled this sandwich, fighting for a bite. For sure, it is a bit messy to eat, but who cares!

To go with our meal, we ordered some of their specialty drinks. Fresh ginger-mint lemonade for me (great if you love ginger):

I am still convinced that Taïm is...

    Falafel Sandwich

Years ago, I was highly skeptical that falafel had any business in a carnivore’s pita pocket. Every time I had tried the ball of spiced, mashed and fried chickpeas, I found it either too soggy, too dry and just plain lacking in flavor. Why would anyone substitute this for juicy shwarma or chicken kebab I wondered. Then a friend introduced me to Taim, and my mind was blown.

Taim is a kosher, vegetarian Israeli restaurant focusing on the falafel. The name means “tasty” in Hebrew, although that’s an understatement for how good their falafel really is. It’s one of those game changing renditions that makes it feel unfair to refer to it by the same name.

Taim’s falafel comes in three types: green (cilantro, parsley & mint, my personal favorite), red (roasted red pepper) and harissa (Tunisian spiced). The balls are made fresh – which it’s now clear is the only way to eat falafel – leaving them crunchy on the outside and moist inside. You can get them as a platter with salad, but I must highly recommend the sandwich which is perfectly topped with their spectacular hummus, tahini sauce and Israeli salad. Not matter how much you think you don’t like falafel, you need to give it a try.

Taim currently has two locations, plus a truck. The original is in the West Village and justifiably received a 9/30 in decor from Zagat. It’s basically a food counter with seating for four so have another place to eat in mind when venturing over (the steps across the street are popular). The NoLiTa location is slightly larger seating maybe 15 and adds some wood paneling so you don’t feel like you’re eating in a commercial kitchen.

Falafel Sandwich (4/4 stars) All the ingredients from the falafel to the hummus, [tahini] to the pita itself are fantastic and in perfect portion. If you feel the need to add something, I recommend their pickles or housemade hot sauce.

Israeli Salad (3/4 stars) a fresh and refreshing mix of tomato, cucumber and parsley

Hummus (3/4 stars) Whenever I go here, I pick up a side of the hummus to bring home. It’s smooth and creamy with just a hint of spice.

Sabich (3/4 stars) The fried eggplant in an interesting change of pace and some people love it. I’m not a big fried food guy and I can’t justify ordering it over the falafel.

You can grab a seat at their wrap-around counter seating, or, take your food to go. Everything here is made daily with the freshest ingredients, and menu items go from smoothies, to sandwiches, to salads. I love Middle-Eastern food, and I’ve had a ton of it. So, I was up for the challenge for these guys to impress my well trained taste buds.

    image_1

They’re said to have a famous Falafel Sandwich (hummus, israeli salad, pickled cabbage), so, what better place to start than that. I got mine on Whole Wheat Pita with their Green Falafel (parsley, cilantro, mint). So…this was indeed maybe one of the best falafel sandwiches I’ve had. Yes, it’s true. Not only was this sandwich crazy delicious, it was hearty as can be. The tahini sauce comes on the side, and I could probably just do shots of it, it’s that good (well, maybe not, that’s probably gross to do…). The falafel has an amazing texture, it’s crisp on the outside and almost meaty on the inside, savory with great spiced flavor. The fresh tomatoes and pickled cabbage (which is a fantastic slaw just on its own) add a crunch and balance that tie everything together.
