great place to grab a bite on the go
On our trip to NYC, we came to Simit Sarayi several times to get the simits. These are sesame crusted bagel looking bread from Turkey. You can opt for them plain, with feta cheese and tomato, smoked salmon, cream cheese and avocado, and more.
I have seen this place about to open early on. Today, while walking by the area, I decided to go in because now they are open for business. I have not passed by this place for a while obviously.
Having been to Turkey, I went in to check it out. There were some items that looked like Turkish food.
I tried the simit plain. It is a cross between a pretzel, bread and a bagel without too much dough. But so narrow that I am surprised they actually fill it with meats or cheese and make it into a sandwich.
I tried the cookies which were stuffed either with apples or chocolate. The one stuffed with chocolate was better but neither will I buy it again.
The Turkish coffee was good.
Got the borek with cheese and spinach. That was worth it.
As for that sausage with cheese - too much dough for me.
