Nanzan Giro Giro
Went to Nazan Giro Giro last night, a only meal in Honolulu. Decor was minimalist chic, food was pure and delicate, celebrating the natural flavors. Presentation was beautiful, all served on hand crafted dishes by Nanzan in Kyoto
Bottom: barley seared moi , gobo sushi rice, salmon roe, grated radish oroshi, wasabi joyu, leaf. Up top, (tuna belly with scallions), Yama-imo (mountain yam), iso-joyu (a dipping sauce meant to look like shoyu made out of seaweed!)
Beautiful soup bowl
#Soup made from with a seared piece, and a block of sesame tofu that had more of the consistency of . Snow pea sprouts, ume-shiso paste that you dissolved into the soup to give it a tart kick
I loved this "sesame tofu". The chef explained to us that it wasn't actually tofu, but more called that because of its shape. Made with ground sesame and a potato flour gives it the mochi consistency, and it forms into layers
Beautiful party plate for our next course!
, root, egg ginger vinaigrette
sea , marinated ,
kimo-joyu mixed, sauce, pink
Roast breast, zest
This was the best bite on the plate: kuro-buta wrapped in eggplant kushi-, red miso degaku sauce
Another beautiful bowl from Kyoto
A very interesting prep of (monk fish liver). Encased in grated lotus root, manju, radish sprouts, sliced myoga, in an ankake (soy gravy), sansho pepper
Cross section close up of ankimo dish
Love the little guy checking out my food :) grilled sliced micro thin, ko-imo paste, beef tendon dote-ni sauce, boiled cubes, micro red and greens, kiawe salt, Karashi
Sunomono in a little ball bowl! Amazing craftsmanship
I almost liken this to a tonkotsu broth made out of lobster as it was so rich with seafood flavor. Somen , and clam white broth, grilled yuan lobster, grilled , maitake , mitsuba, abura age, kosho
Green tea and . Love this plate, reminds me of the book "Goodnight Moon"
and cinnamon , and pine nuts , ice with wine sauce
Some of Nanzan's gorgeous pottery
All in all, a beautiful meal in an open kitchen setting. Honolulu really has some great eats!
Nanzan GiroGiro / Oahu
Nanzan Girogiro is a casual Japanese restaurant in Oahu, Hawaii. They offer only one tasting menu $58 (+$8 for dessert and matcha). The food, decor and service were nice overall but the food was not memorable at this time. It might be from my high expectations.
All of the dishes were good but I was not impressed with any of the dishes. I wanted to have at least one standout dish through the course.
The decor was simple and casual - I liked the white themed and modern furnitures.
The service was great and I simply enjoyed the course during my stay.
Good for a date, dinner with friends.
Price (exclude tips):
$66 (Omakase tasting menu + $8 dessert and matcha) per person without drinks
