Third trip to #Portland, third time @avagenes. Their incredible seasonal veggies and #pasta keep me coming back. I got to try the #tastingmenu this time, which although is a 5 course menu, has multiple dishes for each course - definitely a feast! This was the third course and one of two #pastas. The Sunday #Sugo with #garganelli, pork #sausage, #tomatoes, chiles, basil.
To celebrate my husband's birthday I made reservations at Ava Gene's. We were very impressed with the wine selection and the authentic menu. To start, we ordered Gnocco Fritto with prosciutto, parmigiana, and saba. The fried pillows had a lovely airy middle and with parmigiana and balsamic make a fantastic snack. The prosciutto didn't hurt either. avagenes food #Portland
Our next snack was the sheep cheese pane topped with fresh basil and roasted tomatoes. This is such a fantastic summer treat. The tomatoes were so fresh and sweet and they married well with the tangy sheep cheese and light basil. I would eat this again, and again. avagenes #Portland
Summer pasta done right. One of the things I felt Ava Gene's was incredibly successful with was their portion sizes. This light dish didn't leave you feeling overwhelmed and stuffed. Spaghetti with albacore tuna, jalapeos, and corn. A surprising combination that was perfect on a warm summer evening. avagenes #Portland
Oh my heavens. This dish was amazing. Lamb Ragu in bianco with tagliatelle and chard. I cannot explain how the lamb was so tender and soft but flavorful, it just was PERFECT. The chard added some acidity to create some depth in flavor with the noodles and the cheese. I'm drooling thinking about this again. avagenes food #Portland
This pasta dish had gorgeous hand made noodles that looked like little scrolls. Caserecci with prosciutto, zucchini, and chiles. The texture of the pasta added some intricacy to the crunchy zucchini and the soft prosciutto. avagenes food #Portland
This pretty much sums up dinner with my pops avagenes last night. Not pictured are all the tracks playing over the speakers that made him feel right at home, an asian pear and shaved salad that was so amazing I almost flipped the table over, and the chicken rag that silenced us both (difficult task). Omg and the amari and Stumptown gelato. Thank you sam_burglar and staff for another immaculate dining experience. We laughed the night away.
