San Antonio is a great town and has a great food scene. But there is something about New Orleans, something which makes it a greater food city than any other in the country – even New York. When I heard that NOLA Brunch and Beignets would open in Alamo City on March 7th, I was over the moon.
What is there to love about NOLA Brunch and Beignets? Well, it is New Orleans-style brunch and the beignets. If that doesn’t get you excited, then you might want to talk to a doctor. The premise is simple and this restaurant is offering brunch five days a week – every Tuesday to Saturday.
See brunch is the new, well everything. And there is something about New Orleans-style brunch. Maybe it is the combination of Southern mannerisms and French cuisine, or maybe it is the fact that you are usually so hungover the morning after that you want to slow, leisurely, filling meal, with a bit of the hair of the dog to get you going again.
Ok, that’s the brunch bit, but what if you need something for a lazy afternoon? How about a coffee and beignets? That will hit the spot and it NLOA Brunch & Beignets brings a bit of the French Quarter to old San Antonio.
The new restaurant is located at 111 Kings Court and is open from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. every Tuesday to Saturday. Chef Pieter Sypesteyn is the culinary genius behind NOLA and the San Antonio transplant is bringing everything back to his creole roots.
Looking at the menu you will fall in love with the Uptown Eggs Bennie, Zapps Potato Chop Tortilla Espanola, Fried Oyster Salad, and the Blue Crab Omelette. Prices are reasonable as well, and this means you can order a little bit of this and a little bit of that. Drinks-wise, you can choose from cold brewed coffee, fresh juices, and either café au lait or French press coffee. I just wish they had a mimosa on menu – oh well.
You can also choose from three different types of beignets. These include the Classic, with powdered sugar, Lemon Curd Stuffed, and Stuffed Coffee & Chicory Pastry Cream. All three are great and ranging from $5 to $7 each, you should just get one of each.
